A direct object receives the action of a verb.
- In the sentence "John throws the ball," John is the subject (he does the action), throws is the verb, and the ball is the direct object (it receives the action; it is being thrown).
- Ex. John throws the ball. What does John throw? The ball.
- Instead of saying "John throws the ball," you can say "John throws it."
In English, direct object nouns and direct object pronouns both go after the verb:
In Spanish, the direct object pronoun goes before the conjugated verb.
The direct object pronouns can also go attached to an infinitive verb:
