II. Una tarjeta postal
Today, you will be writing a postcard about your Spanish-speaking country and about the things you see. This is an individual assignment.
- First, choose three sites or other places you could describe. You can use the attractions you included in your group's presentation or choose new sites.
- You must write complete sentences in Spanish. You will use the present tense, the present progressive, and the simple future (ir a + infinitive). Keep your sentences short, and use verbs and adjectives that you know or can easily look up. Use your vocabulary list.
You will create a postcard in Google Drive that will include a picture and a message. Follow these steps:
- Go to Google Classroom and open the assignment called "Tarjeta Postal".
- Choose "Add" and "Slides," and open the file when it loads.
- Find a picture in Google Images that represents your country, and paste it onto the first slide. The picture can be a photograph, a drawing, or your country's flag.
- Create a second slide for your message. Choose the slide with two columns (Click the down arrow next to the + when adding a new slide)
- In the right column, write the name of the person you're "sending" the postcard to. You can make up an address as well.
- In the left column, you will write your message. Start with a greeting (ex. Dear Paul,...) and end with a farewell (ex. Sincerely, Mary).
- You must write 6-8 complete sentences. Use ser and adjectives to describe the different sites. Use estar to talk about the locations of different sites or where you are. Use other verbs, nouns, and adjectives that you know. Hay means "There is" or "There are."

Make sure you use a different color or symbol for each. If you aren't sure what a word means, use a dictionary to look it up. You can write the definition next to the word on your paper.
After you have marked the text, read through it again. When you have read it, you will respond to the¿Comprendes? section. Answer in complete sentences. Use the back of the page or another sheet of paper if you need more room.

To help you understand the reading, you will identify different types of words by marking the text. You can use different colored highlighters/markers. You can also underline, draw boxes, and circle different words.
Look through the passage and identify the following:
- Cognates. These are words that resemble words in another language (ex. Spanish and English) and have the same meaning (like confirmación and confirmation).
- Different t ypes of verbs: infinitives (end in -ar, -er, or -ir), conjugated verbs and the simple future (Ir a + infinitive)
- Nouns
- Adjectives. These are words that describe a noun.

To answer questions in complete sentences, first determine if it is a yes/no question or an open-ended question.
- Yes/No and Either/Or questions generally start with a verb. Example: ¿Hablas por teléfono? = Do you talk on the phone. Hablas is a verb. To answer, you restate the question, but you will add "Sí," or "No, no" before the verb.
- Open-ended questions start with a question word like "quién" (who), "qué" (what) "dónde/adónde" (where), "cuándo" (when), "por qué" (why), "cuántos" (how many), or "cómo" (how). The question words tell you what type of information a question is looking for. Example: ¿Dedónde es? = Where is he from? Dónde tells you that the answer will include a location.
- You will generally use the verb from the question in your answer. If the question is in the "tú" form, it changes to "yo" form.
