Conjugate the verbs in the preterite:
Today, we will learn about reflexive verbs in Spanish, how to conjugate them, and when to use them.
With reflexive verbs, the person or thing does the action to themselves.
Conjugate the verbs in the preterite:
- yo/jugar
- ellos/hablar
- él/pedir
- nosotros/comer
- tú/pagar
- ustedes/dormir

These verbs can be used as reflexive verbs when the subject is doing the action to himself/herself. These verbs are not reflexive when the subject is doing the action to someone else.
Ex. La madre baña al niño. The mother bathes the child.
How to conjugate reflexive verbs:

- Ex. bañarse: to bathe; despertarse: to wake up.
- Yo nunca me despierto tarde. I never wake up late.
2) Emotional Response
- Ex. enojarse: to get angry; alegrarse: to get happy;aburrirse: to get bored
- Yo me alegro cuando no tengo tarea. I get happy with I don't have homework.
These verbs can be used as reflexive verbs when the subject is doing the action to himself/herself. These verbs are not reflexive when the subject is doing the action to someone else.
Ex. La madre baña al niño. The mother bathes the child.
- bañar: non-reflexive; the mother is the subject (does the action), but the child receives the action.
- bañarse: reflexive; the mother is the subject and receives the actions.
How to conjugate reflexive verbs:

Step 3- Add the appropriate reflexive pronoun before the conjugated verb.

Note: You must always use reflexive pronouns with reflexive verbs.
Copy down the reflexive pronouns:
Yo: Me Nosotros: Nos
Tú: Te Vosotros: Os
Él/ella/usted: Se Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes: Se
Here is an example of a reflexive verb conjugated in the present tense:

Here is an example of a reflexive verb conjugated in the present tense:
Reflexive verbs follow the same rules when you conjugate them in the preterite as well. Ex: Ducharse in the yo preterite would be me duché.
Pronoun placement
Note: use definite articles with body parts. Ex. Me cepilloel pelo. (NOT Me cepillo mi pelo).

Conjuguemos: Click the box that says "Don't time me," and click start. Conjugate at least 30 verbs with a score of 90% or better. Take a screenshot of your results.
III. Vocabulario
We are going to learn the reflexive verbs from the Unit 4 vocabulary list. First, we will look at a slideshow to practice saying the words and to guess their meaning.
Pronoun placement
- Reflexive pronouns can always go before aconjugated verb. Ex. Me llamo María. Ellos se están cepillando los dientes.
- Reflexive pronouns can also be attached to theinfinitive or the present participle. Ex. Yo voy a despertarme. Ellos están cepillándose los dientes.
Note: use definite articles with body parts. Ex. Me cepilloel pelo. (NOT Me cepillo mi pelo).
