Writing to persuade
When you write to persuade, you want to convince someone else to do or think the way you do. In this case, you are offering to be the best candidate for an opening.
When you write to persuade, you should do the following:
- Think about the needs of the person you are writing to.
- Think of the reasons why you might be the best candidate.
- Organize the reasons and let the person you are writing to know you are the solution.
- Invite the reader to take action.
Step 1: Before writing (antes de escribir)
- Think about the information you want to include in the letter. Create a chart like the one in the book with information that you should include in each part of your letter. Make up the name of the organization and of the manager who will receive your letter.
- Your letter should have a greeting/introduction, a paragraph to develop your ideas, and a conclusion.
Step 2: Rough draft (Borrador)
- Write your draft. Remember to write your letter to the manager of the place where you want to work. Write your ideas following the order shown in the graphic.
- Use vocabulary from the chapter as well as grammar we have learned, including present perfect and preterite.
- Use the sample letter on pg. 237 as a guide to help you format your own letter.
Tomorrow, you will have 10 minutes to finish your drafts before trading papers for revising.
