You might already be familiar with "yo sé" (I know) and "no sé" (I don't know). They are likely to be some of the first expressions you hear when traveling to a Spanish-speaking country. Letting people know what you know and don't know can be important!
Conocer is to know or be familiar with people, places or things.
Saber is to know facts or information.

- The word you choose depends on the context in which it is used. They are NOT interchangeable.
Conocer is to know or be familiar with people, places or things.
Saber is to know facts or information.

- No conocemos Madrid: We aren't familiar with Madrid.
- ¿Conoces Costa Rica?: Do you know Costa Rica?

- No conozco a tu amigo Timoteo: I don't know your friend Timoteo.
- Use the personal a before a person (or pet) that you know (like in "Conozco a Maite")

- Use conocer when describing people, places, or things that you know or are familiar with (ej. Yo conozco a mi amigo: I know my friend).
- Use saber when describing facts you know or things you know how to do (ej. Yo sé jugar fútbol: I know how to play soccer.)
- You can use saber + an infinitive to describe what you know how to do (sé + jugar = know how to play)
- Go to Google Classroom.
- Choose the assignment "Saber y Conocer practice"
- Select "Create" and choose "Document" from the menu
- Write you list of ten sentences.
- Click "Turn In" when you finish
III. Vocabulario
When you finish practicing with saber and conocer, you will start working with the vocabulary for Unit 3.
- Open the Unit 3 vocabulary here: Unit 3 vocab
- Go to Quizlet.com and sign in.
- Click "Create a Set" at the top of the page.
- Name the set Unit 3 vocabulary: La ropa
- For the left column, click Spanish under "Choose a language"
- For the right column, click English under "Choose a language"
- In the left column, type the Spanish vocabulary words from the section "La ropa" (Make "las gafas" and "las gafas de sol" two different entries)
- In the right column, type the English definitions of the vocabulary words.
- When you finish the list, click "Save"
You should have a total of 29 terms when you finish.
